Fig. 3

GLS and GDH mRNA expressions at 24, 48, 72 h after treatment of HL-60 and THP-1 cell lines with Gal-9. In HL-60 cell line, the expression of GLS enzyme at 24 h had no significant variation, but after 48 h (p = 0.01) and 72 h (p = 0.001), it was increased significantly in comparison to the control group (a.). GDH mRNA expression changes in HL-60 cells showed a significant difference between the PMA + Gal-9 group and the control group at 24 and 48 h (p = 0.02) and the most significant difference was achieved at 72 h (p = 0.0001) (b.). The kinetics of GLS (c.) and GDH (d.) mRNA expression changes after PMA + Gal-9 treatment compared to PMA and control groups in the THP-1 cell line indicated that the expression of GDH decreased in the time course. However, the GLS enzyme showed a significant increase in all time with the highest pick at the 24th hour (p = 0.001). Asterisks represent statistical significance (* p < 0.05, ** p < 0.001, ***p < 0.0001)
