Silencing of KPNA7 inhibits cell proliferation in cells with endogenous KPNA7 expression. KPNA7 was silenced with siRNAs in (a) pancreatic and (b) breast cancer cell lines with different levels of endogenous KPNA7 expression, as well as in (c) KPNA7-negative cell lines. A siRNA targeting the firefly luciferase gene (LUC) was used as a control. Mean cell numbers (± SD of six replicates) were determined 72 or 96 h post-transfection and normalized to the mean of siLUC control of each cell line. The silencing efficiencies were verified in each case with qRT-PCR and are shown in Additional file 1: Table S3. The experiments were repeated at least twice and data from one representative experiment is shown. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01
