CAV1 expression in ECC favored anchorage independent growth. Anchorage-independent growth was examined for shLuc or shCav-1(#5) Ishikawa and Hec-1A cells in soft agar. Colony-forming efficiency (CFE) was determined as the number of colonies per total number of visible cells. Statistically significant differences compared with the corresponding control group are indicated (**, p < 0.01, ***, p < 0.001). Ishikawa (a) and Hec-1A (b) cells were treated with either 100 nM 4β-TPA in DMEM-F12 in the absence of serum for 6-8 days. shLuc Ishikawa or Hec-1A cells without 4β-TPA were considered as the control groups (28 ± 4 or 22 ± 4 colonies, respectively)
