A) Control HK2 cells were predominantly mononucleated and apoptosis were rarely observed. B and C) HK2 cells after treatment with chrysotile for 48 h and additional 24 h in fiber-free medium show high frequency of multinucleated cells (arrows) and apoptosis (arrows tips). The pattern of microtubules in interphasic treated cells is similar to control cells, however in multinucleated cells a reorganization of cytoskeleton in a radiated distribution was observed.
