Derivative 4 induces caspase 3/9 activation. MDA-MB-231 cells were left untreated or treated with NS and 4 for 6 h, and cell lysates were prepared. The lysates were then incubated with substrates of caspase 8, 9 and 3, and OD value at 405 nm was measured using a standard plate reader. Treatment with 4 resulted in a significant increase in the activation of caspase -9 and -3 compared to its parent compound NS.
