Metformin acts as a growth inhibitor for human pancreatic cancer cells. (A) BxPC-3, (B) MIAPaCa-2, (C) PANC-1 and (D) AsPC-1 pancreatic cancer cells were seeded in 96-well plates in normal (5 mM) glucose-containing growth media with 10% FBS for 24h, followed by 24 h in 5 mM glucose-containing SFM. The cells were then dosed with or without metformin in normal glucose SFM for an additional 24 h. Results are shown as percentage of SFM control and represent mean ± SE of six replicate wells.
