CFT and 5-FU induce Caspase-3/7 assay in DLD-1 cells (A) and HCT-116 cells (B), respectively. Cells were treated with 5-FU (8 μM for HCT-116 and 16 μM for DLD-1), CFT (100 μg/mL), CFP (50 μg/mL) and their combinations for 48 h and 72 h. Caspase 3/7 activity was measured according to the manufacturer’s protocol. Briefly, a pre-luminescent substrate is cleaved and causes a fluorescent signal proportional to caspase-3/7 activity, which is measured with a microplate reader. Results are expressed with respect to their respective control untreated cells. Standard error of the mean is shown (n = 3). Statistical analysis was performed using one-tailed t-test. *P < 0.05 and ***P < 0.001: significant with respect to control untreated cells; ##P < 0.01 and ###P < 0.001: significant with respect to 5-FU; §§P < 0.05 and §§§P < 0.001: significant with respect to CFT
