Representative hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunostaining of mucosal melanoma of the female genital tract. Microscopic examination revealed that the tumor cells were distributed in solid islets, nests, or band-like formations. Tumor cells were polygonal (A), epithelioid (B), or spindle in shape (C) (× 200 magnification). Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that CK expression was negative in most cases, but weakly focally positive in three of the 19 cases (D) (× 200 magnification). Tumor cells were strongly positive for Melan-A (E), HMB45 (F), S100 (G) and SOX-10 (H) protein in vulvar malignant melanomas (× 200 magnification)
