Small cell cancer (SCLC) cells on the cellular 4D lung model. Primary tumors formed in a bronchocentric fashion on the cellular lung upon H69 (ad), H446 (eh) and SHP77 (il) cell seeding though no distinct nodules appeared. Human mitochondrial IHC staining clearly shows the presence of a tumor formed by human lung cancer cells in a rat lung after 10 days of culture in a bioreactor. Low and high power H&E staining indicates the presence of microscopic tumor with distinctive histology based on the cell type seeded. H69 cells formed tumors similar to high-grade basaloid malignancy with vague rosette/acinar appearance (c and d). H446 cells formed a collection of tumors, typical of small cell carcinoma (g and h). SHP77 cells formed a tumor more like a poorly differentiated carcinoma within alveolar spaces (k and l)
