Expression of EMT-related marker proteins in M13HS hybrids and parental cells. Western blot data reveal an epithelial phenotype of M13SV1-EGFP-Neo breast epithelial cells, indicated by E-CADHERIN (ECAD) expression, but lack of N-CADHERIN (NCAD), VIMENTIN and ZEB1. In contrast, the HS578T-Hyg breast cancer cells and all M13HS hybrids exhibit a mesenchymal phenotype due to expression of NCAD, VIMENTIN and ZEB1, and a lack of ECAD. Interestingly, SNAIL and TWIST, which have both been associated with EMT, show higher expression in the M13SV1-EGFP-Neo breast epithelial cells than in the HS578T-Hyg breast cancer cells.
