Inhibition of metalloproteinases reduces shedding, but does not block apoptosis. a ELISA detection of the CA IX ECD in the culture media of CHX-treated versus non-treated CGL3 cells in the presence or absence of the metalloproteinase inhibitor BB-94. BB-94 significantly reduces shedding of the CA IX ECD. b FACS analysis of the proportion of dead cells (based on PI uptake) in the corresponding populations of the CHX- and/or BB-94-treated cells compared to non-treated controls.
