a: The kinase activity of ATM was increased in lung cancer cell lines exposed to IR. Exponentially dividing lung cancer cell lines were exposed to ATM kinase inhibitor KU60019 (ATMi) for 15 min. Cells were exposed to 2 Gy IR. Whole cell extracts were prepared at 1 h post-IR, resolved and immunoblotted as indicated. b: FANCD2 was covalently modified in lung cancer cell lines exposed to an agent that induces ICLs. Exponentially dividing lung cancer cell lines were exposed to 100 nM MMC and KU60019 for 18 h. Whole cell extracts were prepared and immunoblotted as indicated. ICL-induced FANCD2 mobility shift (arrow) is seen in all the lung cancer cell lines examined and this shift is not inhibited by ATM kinase inhibitor
