  1. 1An ISI value of 0–1 is considered negative, while an ISI value of > 1 is considered positive, with the 4 groups (i.e., > 1–3, > 3–6, > 6–9, > 9–12) indicate an increasing level of expression intensity and rate.
  2. 2For each tissue specimen tumor cells and non-tumor cells were scored separately for percent immunohistochemical reactivity and staining intensity as described in the Methods Section. The product of the percentage and intensity scores was used to generate an immunohistochemical staining index (ISI) for each cellular component (i.e., tumor and non-tumor) of each specimen.
