  1. Metastatic disease was more likely to occur (p = 0.046) in the preoperative radiation therapy group. Most of the metastases (83%) occurred in multiple localisations almost simultaneously (n = 11) or in the lung (n = 8). Three times metastasis to lymph nodes (13%) and once to bone (4%) was noted.
