Cancer-specific survival rate of cancer patients who died of their disease calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Note the small difference between the cancer-specific survival rate at τ year as compared to the long-term survival rate. The single arrow shows the location of the threshold year (τ). The pair of opposing arrows at the long-term follow-up shows that the difference between the estimated and actual cancer-specific rate is small, less than six percentage points. The survival time for cancer patients who died of their disease for stomach cancer is shown as an example.
