  1. CTCs could be quantified by qRT-PCR targeting human Alu-sequences in 6 out of 29 blood samples gained from xenografted animals. CTCs were detectable at tumour sizes between 80 to 140 mm2 (MDA-MB-231 and KPL-4). No CTCs could be detected in a subcutaneous MDA-MB-231 model. Number of CTCs were calculated by spiking rows which were included in every run.
