Cytotoxic effect of aroylhydrazone chelators ( AHC ) in comparison to DFO in ovarian cancer cells. The cytotoxicity of chelators on human ovarian cancer cells (SKOV-3, OVCAR-3) and a rat ovarian cancer cells (NUTU-19) was evaluated by using the MTS viability assay as described (Materials and Methods). The cells were treated for 72 h with varying concentrations of various AHCs or DFO as control. HNTMB displayed the highest cytotoxicity (IC50 = 0.2-0.8 μM depending on the cell line studied). Experiments were performed in triplicates; data are expressed as the mean of the triplicate determinations (X ± SD) of a representative experiment in % cell viability of untreated cells [100%].
