Hypothetical representation of the role of miR-221 and miR-222 in regulation of Akt phosphorylation and downstream signaling of proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, and radiosensitivity via PTEN. Our data supports an essential role for miR-221/222 in the inhibition of PTEN, thereby promoting Akt phosphorylation via activated PIP3.
